War Eagle Mine

The War Eagle Mine worked lead, zinc, and silver ore in the Nopah Range east of Tecopa from 1912 until 1957. Its tunnels run through the mountain, linking adits on opposite sides, and a massive wooden ore bin perches on the west-facing slope. The mine was part of the Tecopa district served by a short railroad, and it became an important lead producer during World War II before Anaconda Copper shut the operation down. Collapsed timber frames, rusted boilers, bullet-riddled desert cars, and miles of underground workings remain across the hillside.
